Frequently Ask Question
What types of power generators does RR Machinery offer?
We offer a comprehensive range of generators including diesel, petrol, and gas-powered units across a wide capacity range, from compact 30 kVA portable units to heavy-duty industrial generators exceeding 1,000 kVA. Both standby and prime power configurations are available for sale and rental.
What is the difference between a standby and a prime power generator?
A standby generator is designed as a backup power source when the utility grid fails. It is rated for limited annual operating hours, typically under 200 hours per year, and is not suitable for continuous use. A prime power generator is built to serve as the primary power source with no grid backup, running continuously for unlimited hours. Using a standby-rated unit in a prime power role leads to accelerated wear and premature failure.
What generator capacity do I need?
The right capacity depends on the total electrical load of your connected equipment, including starting surge requirements for motors and compressors. As a general rule, add up the running watts of all equipment that will operate simultaneously, account for motor starting surges, then add a 20–25% safety margin. Our team can assist with load calculations to ensure you select the correct unit.
Can I rent a generator instead of buying one?
Yes. RR Machinery offers generator rental on daily, weekly, monthly, and long-term yearly terms. Rental is a practical solution for construction sites, temporary events, short-term projects, or any application where purchasing is not justified by the duration or frequency of use.
What industries do you supply generators to?
Our generators are used across construction and engineering, oil and gas, events and exhibitions, telecommunications, healthcare, cold storage, data centres, and manufacturing. Any operation requiring reliable temporary or backup power can be accommodated.
Are your generators suitable for use on construction sites?
Yes. Our diesel prime power generators are the standard choice for construction sites without a grid connection. They are built for continuous operation under variable loads, powering tools, lighting, compressors, hoists, and site offices simultaneously. Units are available with weatherproof enclosures suitable for outdoor site deployment.
Do your generators come with automatic transfer switching?
Automatic transfer switch (ATS) and automatic mains failure (AMF) panels are available and can be configured with our standby generator units. These systems detect grid power loss and automatically start and connect the generator within seconds, with no manual intervention required, essential for hospitals, data centres, and facilities where power continuity is critical.
How loud are your generators?
Noise levels vary by model and enclosure type. Our enclosed industrial generators are fitted with acoustic canopies and silencers that significantly reduce operating noise compared to open-frame units. For urban sites, office environments, or noise-sensitive locations, we can advise on the most appropriate low-noise configuration for your application.
What fuel do your generators use and how long will a tank last?
Most of our industrial generators run on diesel. Runtime depends on the tank capacity and the load at which the generator operates. A well-sized generator running at 70–80% load will typically consume less fuel per hour than an undersized unit running at maximum capacity. Our team can provide estimated fuel consumption figures for specific models and load profiles.
Do you provide installation, servicing, and maintenance?
Yes. RR Machinery provides full generator support including delivery, installation, load testing, scheduled servicing, and 24/7 breakdown assistance. Our technicians are experienced across all generator types and configurations. We also service and repair generators supplied by other providers.
Can a generator be connected to my existing electrical system?
Yes, but this must be carried out by a licensed electrical worker in accordance with Singapore’s electrical regulations. Improper connection, particularly without a properly installed transfer switch, creates serious safety risks including back-feeding onto the grid. Our team can advise on the correct integration approach for your facility.
How do I get a quotation?
Contact our team with your required power capacity, intended application, preferred fuel type, and whether you need sale or rental. If you are unsure o f your load requirements, let us know the equipment you need to power and we will help size the generator correctly before providing a quotation.
